Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego

Millennium Health donating bicycles to children in needIn 2014, Millennium Health launched its partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego to support families and children in need right here in San Diego. Due to funding and volunteer shortages, children, or Littles, as they are referred to in the program, often wait more than a year before they can be matched. We are proud that Millennium’s employees can support the program and give back to the community in a meaningful way.

Independent research shows Big Brothers Big Sisters has a measurable, positive impact in children’s lives. In a nationwide study, Little Brothers and Little Sisters were:

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school
  • 37% less likely to skip class
  • More confident in their academic performance and able to get along better with their families

Beyond School Walls STEM

Millennium Health and Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County created a new program called Beyond School Walls STEM Sister-2-Sister, which is focused on providing at-risk youth in San Diego with curriculum designed to get them excited about entering the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The program is the first of its kind in San Diego focused on girls and provides one-to-one mentoring, paired with a STEM-based curriculum, to underserved teens from Del Dios Academy of Arts and Science to help deter them from gang and drug-related activity.

Millennium Health donating bicycles to children in need

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, UPS and Millennium Health together delivered bicycles to children in need throughout San Diego County. Millennium Health assembled and donated 50 bicycles for children participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County program, and UPS helped deliver each bike to the children’s homes. These bikes can provide transportation for the children while traveling to and from school or after-school activities. The bikes also provide an opportunity for the children to own something of their own, giving them pride and helping them practice responsibility.
