SAN DIEGO – Dec. 12, 2016 – Millennium Health, a leading health solutions company, announced today the availability of a new definitive urine drug test for detecting the opioid medication levorphanol using LC-MS/MS technology. The addition is in response to requests from clinicians who prescribe levorphanol and want to include urine drug monitoring as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
“The availability of this test will provide a comfort level to clinicians and a safety net for patients receiving levorphanol. Previously, clinicians were unable to monitor this very potent opioid with an important place in therapy due to its unique mechanism of action and pharmacokinetics,” said Jeffrey Fudin, PharmD, DAAPM, FCCP, FASHP. “The option for additional clinically useful information to help support treatment decisions in patients prescribed levorphanol is long overdue.”
Levorphanol is an older opioid medication that has seen resurgence recently, due to its renewed availability and efficacy across a range of pain types.
“At Millennium, we are committed to providing clinicians quality testing services with clinical resources that help them personalize treatment plans,” said Angela Huskey, PharmD, CPE, Chief Clinical Officer, Millennium Health. “With the addition of our levorphanol test, and our precise clinical interpretation, clinicians now have additional clinically actionable information to help improve outcomes and patient safety.”
